South Lanarkshire’s first-ever Pride festival to launch this summer in Hamilton

South Lanarkshire’s first-ever Pride festival has been announced for Hamilton this summer.

Organisers from Run by Hamilton Our Town, with support from EventScotland, say the family pride festival will be a "vibrant celebration of LGBTQ+ culture" and will take place in the South Lanarkshire town’s main high street and town square in July.

They added that the events program, which runs from July 28 and 29 and will also take place at the stunning ‘A listed’ Edwardian Baroque Style Hamilton Townhouse venue, will showcase high quality, high-impact performances from a variety of performers.

These include circus acts, street-based performances, dance and theatre groups alongside music groups, DJs, choirs and more.

Day One will feature the fabulous Bingo Babes and Drag at the Townhouse featuring an evening of drag, cabaret and comedy delivered by some of the best drag performers in Scotland. Tickets are on sale from the Townhouse Hamilton online box office.

For Day Two, the event takes over Hamilton Town Centre’s main high street, Quarry Street and town square in what will be a carnival atmosphere in celebration and support of the area's LGBTQ+ community.

The popular Hamilton Market and Smiths’ Family Funfair will also be onsite at this free and family-friendly event.

Event organiser, Malcolm Thomas-Harley said: "Our mission with this event is to create an impactful space for our community to come together in a spirit of celebration and collaboration, providing a platform that is long overdue in the area for our LGBTQ+ community.

"We will be raising funds for LGBTQ+ organisations alongside awareness regarding the superb work of these groups. As event managers from the LGBTQ+ community ourselves, we have an opportunity to make a difference.

"Hamilton Our Town is an organisation set up to support the town and in turn community, making no profit from our activities and ran by a volunteer board. We’re proud to launch Pride, South Lanarkshire in Hamilton for its inaugural year and stand ready to support its return annually through the growth of a new network of community partners.

"We look forward to seeing you all on the 28th and 29th of July in Hamilton’.
