South Lanarkshire residents have until Friday to pay respects to HM Queen Elizabeth

South Lanarkshire residents have until the end of the week to pay tribute to HM Queen Elizabeth.

The council’s books of condolence have been made available for residents to add their signatures to to pay respects to HM The Queen, whose funeral was held on Monday.

Books have been placed in six locations across the council area and will be available until Friday (September 23).

A spokesperson for South Lanarkshire Council said: “Our books of condolence will remain available until Friday and have so far allowed large numbers of people from across South Lanarkshire people to pay their respects to Her Majesty The Queen.”

Books can be signed at: C ambuslang (SLC Offices, Cambuslang Gate) from 9.45am to 3.45pm on weekdays; Carluke (Carluke Lifestyles) from 8am until 9pm on Monday to Thursday and 8am to 6pm on Friday; East Kilbride (EK Central Library) from 9.15am to 6pm on weekdays and until 8pm on Thursday; Hamilton (SLC Offices, Almada Street) from 8am to 7pm on weekdays; Lanark (Lanark Memorial Hall) from 9am to 4pm on weekdays; and Rutherglen (Rutherglen Town Hall) 9am to 5pm on Tuesday and Friday and 9am to 8.30pm on Wednesday and Thursday.

Those who cannot go to one of the locations are able to sign the official online condolence book, which can be accessed here.

Provost Margaret Cooper, said: “On behalf of the people of South Lanarkshire, I would like to send my deepest condolences to all members of the Royal Family following the news that HM The Queen has passed away.

“This is a sad day for everyone across the country, and indeed the world, and I am sure we will all want to take a quiet moment and reflect on the incredible life of our longest serving Monarch.

“She has been by the country’s side through some of our brightest and darkest days, and always did so with a dedication and love for her people.

“Although this is of course a very sad day, it should also be a day for reflection and admiration for someone who was so loved by so many.”
