Recycling centres in South Lanarkshire will almost be back to normal when they begin to accept all the same types of waste as before the pandemic.
The six sites at Blantyre, Carluke, East Kilbride, Larkhall, Rutherglen and Strathaven will start accepting more waste from Wednesday (July 29) meaning residents can once again dispose of soil, rubble, batteries, fluorescent tubes, textiles and gas bottles.
Restrictions to help prevent the spread of coronavirus will still be in place, including physical distancing.
Chair of South Lanarkshire Council’s Community and Enterprise Resources Committee, Councillor John Anderson (East Kilbride Central South), said: “We are delighted that as restrictions continue to ease, household waste recycling centres can now accept everything they did prior to lockdown.
“We anticipate that our sites will be extremely busy during this period, so please be patient, consider if you really need to visit, and only do so if you have no COVID-19 symptoms.”
To facilitate the changes, East Kilbride, Blantyre and Rutherglen recycling centres will not open until 12pm on Wednesday but the sites at Larkhall and Strathaven will be open from 9am and Carluke from 8am.
Cllr Anderson added: “The sites themselves have different layouts than normal to make sure physical distancing can still be maintained.
“Staff at the sites cannot assist with unloading vehicles so make sure anything you bring you are able to remove from your vehicle and place in the appropriate skip.
“Please note that any verbal abuse of staff by members of the public is not acceptable and will not be tolerated.
“Also, please be aware that members of the public cannot access any of the sites on foot.”
Vans and trailers - which are currently only allowed on Tuesdays and Thursdays - will also be allowed back on Sundays between 9am and 4pm from August 2.
Trade waste will be allowed from Tuesday at Blantyre, Carluke, East Kilbride and Rutherglen on Tuesdays and Thursdays only.
