Eleven young musicians have gone back to school having excelled with the National Youth Brass Band of Scotland.

Members of the Coalburn Brass Band, the youngsters were taking part in a week-long course at Strathallan School in Perth.

The youngsters – from the percussion academy, bronze, intermediate, and silver band – were part of a 180 strong group of musicians from across Scotland at the NYBBS summer course.

During the course, Anna Biggart, Robyn Anderson, Euan Court, Ross Abernethy and Jack Archibald, performed in the senior band.

Meanwhile, Eilidh Court, Tilly Trickey, Hannah Archibald, Ben Coulter and Finlay Damer performed in the reserve band.

And Marcie Boyle, performed as part of the children’s band.

The week included a variety of fun activities and put the youngsters through their musical paces during full band and sectional rehearsals under the leadership of some dedicated tutors.

And their week of learning ended with a series of concerts featuring excellent performances from the children’s, reserve, and senior bands.

The Coalburn musicians excelled throughout the week, with principal positions being awarded to Marcie, Eilidh and Robyn.

Robyn also went on to win the highly prestigious solo award seeing off competition from 20 of the country’s best young brass musicians.

Band President, Alan Court, said: “This was the largest group we’ve sent to NYBBS and is further evidence of the success through an ongoing focus on our young people.

“We are exceptionally proud of everyone who took part in the course; they all performed superbly and are a credit to themselves, their families and the band’.

Young cornet player, Ben Coulter, said he left the course having gained a number of new skills and confidence.
