South Lanarkshire heroes honoured with Provost Awards

More than 40 residents across South Lanarkshire have been recognised for outstanding achievements in their communities.

Provost Ian McAllan has resurrected the Provost’s Community Awards for this year, with recipients receiving a trophy and certificate.

Nominations were made by councillors and include people who work with local community groups, community councils, charity organisations, sports teams or have helped the environment. across the county.

There is no restriction on nominations, other than the person must have made a significant contribution to community life.

Provost McAllan explained: “It was truly humbling to hear of the effort that people across all communities in South Lanarkshire put in to improve the area that they live in.

“Some of them have been carrying out this work for many years and it is only fitting that we recognise them in this way.

“Our intention was to host  an awards ceremony in April of  this year to mark their achievements.

“But, of course, the global pandemic meant that we could not proceed as we first hoped.

“However, I felt that it was even more important that those who received the awards knew that we appreciated their efforts more than ever, especially as so many of them have really went above and beyond despite the difficulties caused by Covid-19.

“A huge congratulations to them all, and on behalf of everyone in South Lanarkshire, thank you so much for everything you do for your local communities.”
