South Lanarkshire couples who celebrated Golden Wedding last year can claim gift to mark occasion

Couples in South Lanarkshire who celebrated a Golden Wedding in 2020 are being urged to contact the council to claim a celebratory gift.

The Provosts of South and North Lanarkshire Councils jointly host an annual celebration for golden couples, but the coronavirus pandemic put paid to the event last year.

But SLC still want to commemorate couples who celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2020 by arranging to send a gift.

Provost Ian McAllan said: “These celebrations are always a highlight of my year and it’s an absolute privilege to attend the event.

“Hearing the stories of how couples met, the ups and downs of their married life, is always a joy, and the atmosphere created makes it a thoroughly enjoyable occasion for everyone.

“The events are always very well attended but of course it was just not possible for it to go ahead last year because of the restrictions in place due to COVID-19.

“However, I hope as many couples as possible will get in touch with us to allow us the opportunity to send them a small token to commemorate such a wonderful milestone.”

If you live in South Lanarkshire and celebrated your Golden Wedding in 2020 and would like to receive a gift, please contact Linda Cunningham, SLC, Members’ Services, Floor 1, Almada Street, Hamilton ML3 0AA giving your name, address and contact telephone number.

A copy of your marriage certificate will also be required. The closing date is February 28.
