South Lanarkshire councillors endorse Clydesdale wind farm

South Lanarkshire councillors have welcomed a wind farm in Clydesdale.

Plans for a wind farm in Elvanfoot were submitted by RWE Renewables UK Developments Ltd,

Councillors at South Lanarkshire Council’s (SLC) planning committee were consulted on the plans as the permission for planning lies with the Scottish Government who are the overall consenting authority.

The application site is located around 8 kilometres from Moffat in Dumfries and Galloway but the majority of the site is located within South Lanarkshire, it is directly south east of the Daer Reservoir.

Out of the 17 wind turbines planned for the site, 12 are located within the administrative boundary of SLC, therefore the assessment and recommendations made at the planning committee meeting on Tuesday (March 29) were based solely on those wind turbines.

Dumfries and Galloway Council have been consulted on the remaining five wind turbines within its boundary.

The full development will see 17 wind turbines on the site, which will be known as Daer Wind Farm, spread across both South Lanarkshire and Dumfries and Galloway.

There will be an access track and upgrading of existing forestry – the access track will be developed within Dumfries and Galloway.

There will also be crane hardstanding areas next to each turbine as well as battery and energy storage infrastructure.

Planning officers recommended that councillors endorse the proposed plans to the Scottish Government, they considered it acceptable and that it would pose no adverse impact within the surrounding area.
