South Lanarkshire Council is giving residents a helping hand in an effort to clean-up their communities.
Rubbish bags, protective gloves and litter pickers are now available from the local authority.
With the Covid level for South Lanarkshire now moved down to Level Two there has been an increase in interest in organising litter picking events to improve the appearance of local areas and to help protect the environment and wildlife.
South Lanarkshire Council is keen to support such activity and can provide bags and gloves, and lend litter pickers to organised community clean-ups. The council can also make arrangements to pick up full rubbish bags and take them for proper, safe disposal.
Chair of South Lanarkshire community and enterprise resources, Councillor John Anderson, said: “We have a long-standing and very positive relationship with a whole range of community groups who organise litter picks.
“The limits on numbers meeting up under Levels three and four meant regular activity had to be curtailed but now we have returned to Level Two I am delighted to see not only do we have regular groups keen to catch up but we are also seeing more and more groups and individuals keen to organise clean up events in their area.”
South Lanarkshire Council is backing Keep Scotland Beautiful’s Summer Clean 2021 which will run from May 28 to June 20 Spring Clean 2021 | Keep Scotland Beautiful.
Anyone who is planning their own KSB Summer Clean in South Lanarkshire can be provided with bags, gloves and litter pickers by the council, who will also collect the filled bags at the end of the event.
A web form is now available to make it easier than ever to request support for a community clean up.
