South Lanarkshire Council celebrates Scotland's Climate Week 2022

South Lanarkshire Council is raising awareness of climate change as Scotland’s Climate Week 2022 kicks off.

The event runs until October 2, and raises awareness of climate change and encourages action across the country.

And the council is highlighting funding opportunities for groups who wish to launch projects that work around sustainability and net zero.

There are 11 grants available for eligible groups.

The National Lottery Community Fund’s Climate Action Fund offers funding to help communities across the UK address climate change. Community and voluntary organisations are eligible to apply. Up to £1.5 million is available for over two to five years, with most projects costing between £300,000 and £500,000. Development grants of £50,000 to £150,000 are also available over 12 to 18 months.

The Smarter Choices, Smarter Places Open Fund aims to encourage people to change their behaviours to walk or cycle as part of their everyday short journeys. It is available to support public, third and community sector organisations. Grants are available between £5000 and £50,000 and need to be match funded. Funding is available for 50 per cent of a total project cost and needs to be match funded.

Transport Scotland’s eBike Grant fund is available to assist local authorities, public sector agencies, further and higher education institutions, active travel hubs and community groups to adopt ebikes as a sustainable alternative to car journeys. The fund can be used to cover the cost of ebikes, etrikes,ecargo bikes, cargo bikes and trailers, tandems, adapted cycles, and trikes. Up to £200,000 is available and the deadline to apply is November 18.

Zero Waste Scotland’s Circular Economy Investment Fund is a £18 million grant funding opportunity for businesses and organisations in Scotland working in all business and social economy sectors, who are helping to create a more circular economy. Applications from small and medium-sized enterprises and registered third sector organisations are welcome. Between £20,000 and £1,000,000 is available.

Local Energy Scotland’s Let’s Do Net Zero Community Buildings is the Scottish Government’s Community and Renewable Energy Scheme and offers funding to help community organisations to reduce their building costs and greenhouse gas emissions. Grant funding is available for up to 80 per cent of eligible costs up to a maximum of £80,000.

South Lanarkshire Council offers a Climate and Resilience Fund for groups who are in need of funding to carry out environmental, sustainability or climate change projects. Up to £2500 is available.

The Mushroom Trust offers between £1000 to £5000 to community groups that can demonstrate public involvement and community based fundraising who wish to launch projects which improve green space.

The Conservation Volunteers ChestNut Fund encourages community groups to carry out conservation activities. Start-up grants of up to £160 are available and support grants of up to £350 are available.

Localgiving’s Magic Little Grants offers between £250 to £500 to groups who wish to improve biodiversity and green spaces, respond to climate change and promote sustainability and increase community access to outdoor space. The deadline for applying to this grant is October 31.

Vegware’s Community Fund gives monthly support to non-profit sustainability projects, with new recipients being added as Vegware grows. Between £20 and £200 is available.

The Naturesave Trust offers between £500 and £2500 to groups who are focussed on the circular economy with a specific emphasis on repairing, restoring, mending, sharing and repurposing.
