South Lanarkshire Care and Repair purchases four defibrillators

A South Lanarkshire care company has purchased four AEDs in the hope of helping save someone’s life.

Care and Repair South Lanarkshire decided back in May at a board meeting to purchase the four defibrillators.

The decision came after a Care & Repair technician discovered a client who had sadly passed away. The technician contacted emergency service and performed CPR. Unfortunately these efforts were unsuccessful.

It is inevitable that this type situation on occasion will happen. Care and Repair South Lanarkshire carry out in excess of 3000 home visits each year and a large number of these clients are elderly or living with a severe illness.

To assist the team, should they find themselves in this situation again, the Care and Repair Board decided that they should purchase AEDs (automated external defibrillator) for each team member to carry in their vehicle.

They consequently purchased four refurbished AEDs and had their training at the end of June.

The benefits of these types of devices have recently been highlighted by the cardiac arrest of footballer Christian Erikson.

Board chairman, Councillor David Shearer said: “Recent publicity about this type of equipment has raised public awareness however Care and Repair In South Lanarkshire have been proactive and before the event with Christian

Erikson purchased 4 AEDs that will be available for use in the future should they be needed – this really is Care and Repair doing more to protect vulnerable people in South Lanarkshire.”
