South Korean President Lee Jae Myung is set to visit the White House today for discussions with US President Donald Trump regarding North Korea. Lee expressed his willingness to engage in comprehensive talks on the nuclear and North Korean issues, emphasizing the importance of peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula for South Korean security.
Lee's visit to Washington follows a period of political upheaval in South Korea. He assumed office in June after the impeachment of his predecessor, Yoon Suk Yeol, who held a more hawkish stance towards North Korea. Yoon's impeachment stemmed from a failed attempt to impose martial law towards the end of last year.

Despite facing criticism from conservative opponents who accuse him of being lenient towards North Korea, Lee has consistently defended his approach. He views addressing the nuclear threat and promoting peace in the region as top priorities for South Korea's security.
