
Three A-list South Korean actors ―– Lee Byung-hun, Ha Jung-woo and Ma Dong-seok – are teaming up to star in the big-budget science-fiction film Mount Paektu.
Kim Yong-hwa will direct the film, which has a budget of 20 billion won (US$18 million) and will start shooting next year.

Mount Paektu will focus on the efforts of covert operatives from both North and South Korea as they struggle to prevent the volcano, Mount Paektu, a sacred 2,744-metre (9,100-foot) peak straddling the border of the two nations, from erupting.

Lee, who will play a North Korean agent, is known internationally for his film work in 2013’s Red 2 with Bruce Willis, Terminator: Genisys (2015), alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger and The Magnificent Seven (2016) opposite Denzel Washington.

He has most recently starred in the hit South Korean Netflix television series, Mr. Sunshine (2018).
Ha and Ma, who are both known for their roles in the South Korean fantasy films, Along With The Gods: The Two Worlds (2017 and this year’s sequel, Along With The Gods: The Last 49 Days, will play a South Korean agent, and a scientist, respectively.
