Struggling former Thai League 1 champions SCG Muang Thong United have signed South Korean Yoon Jong-Hwan as their new coach.

The former South Korea international put his signature to a contract yesterday in the presence of Muang Thong president Viluck Lohthong and club director Ronnarit Suewaja.

However, the official unveiling for the new coach will be held this afternoon at SCG Stadium.

Yoon, 46, has in the past coached Cerezo Osaka and helped the Japanese team won the J-League Cup and the Emperor Cup trophies in 2017.

He was voted as the best coach of the Japanese league in the same year.

The former midfielder was a member of the South Korean national team at the 2002 Fifa World Cup.

Yoon is the 10th foreign coach hired by Muang Thong with their past managers being Rene Desaeyere (2010-2011 and 2013), Carlos Roberto Carvalho (2010-2011), Henrique Calisto (2011), Robbie Fowler (2011-2012), Slavisa Jokanovic (2012-2013), Winfried Schaefer (2013), Scott Cooper (2014), Dragan Talajic (2014-2016) and Radovan Curcic (2018).

Muang Thong United won the last of their four Thai League 1 titles more than two years ago under Thai coach Totchtawan Sripan.

The Kirins are in 15th place with six points in the 16-team top flight at the moment.
