SEOUL, South Korea _ South Korean president Moon Jae-in's office has numerously asked Pope Francis to meet North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at the demilitarized zone that separates the two Koreas, Chosun Ilbo reported, citing unidentified people familiar.
Moon's office had invited Pope Francis to visit the Korean peninsula after finishing his trip to Japan on Nov. 26. A government official delivered an invitation in July through Archbishop Alfred Xuereb, the Apostolic Nuncio to South Korean and Mongolia.
Another request was made after last year's Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity during Moon's visit to Vatican City.
Moon's office has not received a confirmed response.
