South Gloucestershire records biggest rise in coronavirus cases in 11 weeks

South Gloucestershire recorded its biggest daily rise in coronavirus cases in 11 weeks over the past 24 hours.

According to the latest figures today (Thursday, September 16), all four areas across the Bristol region saw more people being diagnosed with the deadly virus.

South Gloucestershire now has 930 following a jump of 17.

The last time the district surpassed 17 was on July 3, when ministers updated how cases were reported.

While in Bristol, seven positive lab tests were returned. That brings our city's total to 1,668.

North Somerset has 1,046 following a rise of seven.

And Bath and North East Somerset recorded a further eight, the total there is 468.

Nationally, 3,395 cases were recorded today, bringing the UK's total to 381,614.

Covid deaths

Neither of Bristol's hospital trusts have recorded a new death over the past 24 hours, where deaths remain at 271.

Southmead Hospital reported a coronavirus-related death on Tuesday, August 25, which was the first in the city for two months.

Nationally, 21 further Covid-related deaths were recorded, bringing the UK's total to 41,705.
