South Gloucestershire Council says there are "more than enough" ballot papers at UWE polling station

South Gloucestershire Council has confirmed that there are enough ballot papers for people registered to vote at the polling station on the University of the West of England (UWE) campus.

It comes after rumours were circulating on social media that the council had not provided enough ballot papers for the polling station on the Frenchay campus and that as a result people weren’t being allowed to vote in the election.

There were also claims that the council had to drop off an additional 1,100 ballot papers in order for people to vote.

The authority has said that everyone who is eligible to vote at the polling station will be able to.

A spokesperson for the council said: “Although this particular polling station is a lot busier than usual, we have more than enough ballot papers and everyone who is eligible will be able to vote.”

Bristol Live understands that there were long queues outside the campus polling station due to an increase in voter turnout and that some people had shown up not realising they weren't registered to vote there.
