South Dublin resident's room destroyed after device left charging on bed

A suspected overheating charger caused a resident's room to go up in flames in South Dublin.

Firefighters have warned people not to leave devices charging on beds after the tablet was left plugged in under a pillow.

Pictures show the huge damaged caused to the box room while the Dublin Fire Brigade say it could have been much worse had the door not been closed.

They said: "Firefighters fought a fire in a box-bedroom in South Dublin this week.

Luckily the fire didn't spread to the rest of the house thanks to a closed door (Dublin Fire Brigade)

"The most likely cause was a phone or tablet left charging under the pillow of the bed. A closed door stopped the spread of fire to the rest of the house.

"Never ever charge devices on a bed or under bedding."
