South Dublin County Council warns of dangerous scam targeting housing customers

A Dublin council has warned its housing customers to be aware of a dangerous scam targeting them.

South Dublin County Council has warned that the email comes from an email claiming to be the council's housing department. It then goes on to request money for an allocation for a home if they are waiting on the housing list.

But the council will never request money for such an allocation. They are urging anyone who had received such an email to get in touch with them as soon as possible.

The council said: "South Dublin County Council has been made aware of an email phishing scam targeting our Housing customers. Customers who have been targeted will receive an email from an email address sdcchousing@gmail account or one similar to this.

"Please do not open emails or attachments from unknown sources. SDCC never request money for an allocation. Should you receive such an email please contact communications@sdublincoco.ie."
