Feb. 09--A Chicago couple have been charged with felony home invasion after prosecutors say they forced their way into an apartment in the South Chicago neighborhood Friday night and assaulted the people inside.
Linda Alford, a Chicago crossing guard, and her husband, Dennis Alford, a CSX railroad police officer, were charged with felony home invasion with a weapon in the incident in the 3000 block of East 79th Street, according to Cook County court records.
Linda Alford, 48, had previously been an at-home caretaker for one of the women who lived at the apartment, Assistant State's Attorney LaShunda Cooperwood said Sunday in court.
The couple, also from the South Chicago neighborhood, on Friday made numerous harassing calls to the woman and her husband, as well as other family members who were present at the woman's apartment, Cooperwood said.
Shortly after one call, the Alfords knocked at the apartment door, Cooperwood said.
Dennis Alford, 60, pushed a male who had answered the door in the chest, she said, and the Alfords were asked to leave.
Dennis Alford then pushed the door open "with force" and he and his wife entered the apartment, according to court records.
He pushed back his coat to show a loaded Glock handgun holstered at his waist, Cooperwood said.
The police were called after a melee involving the Alfords and two men inside, and the Alfords, of the 8400 block of South Manistee Avenue, were arrested at the scene.
The victims were treated for cuts and bruises but were not hospitalized, she said.
Linda Alford was ordered held on $300,000 bail Sunday, while Dennis Alford was ordered held on $350,000 bail.
