South Challenge Cup: Girvan and Maybole 'El Carricko' tie fails to excite Carlo Walker

Carlo Walker claims Maybole have pulled the worst tie possible in Scotland’s largest senior cup draw in modern times.

‘Bole will make the 12-mile trip to derby rivals Girvan in the second round of the South Challenge Cup.

But Ladywell boss Walker insists they were looking for something totally different in the competition which features 161 senior non-league clubs in a regionalised draw.

And the prospect of their 'El Carricko' showdown hasn't got the juices flowing.

Walker said: “The whole idea of a cup is to play someone different from your normal opponents.

“There are teams from the South of Scotland who we have never played and yet we end up with a trip to our nearest neighbours. From that point of view, it’s the worst possible draw.”

Girvan boss Matt Maley, who worked alongside Walker before managing Annbank United, took over at Hamilton Park six weeks ago.

Making a quick return will be full-back Michael Mossie who only recently switched clubs.
