South Challenge Cup: Ardrossan Winton Rovers boss reckons bravery can be key to cup upset against Kilwinning Rangers

Ardrossan Winton Rovers boss Stevie Wilson reckons bravery can be the key to a cup upset against Kilwinning Rangers this afternoon.

Wilson insists his West of Scotland League Conference C side are massive underdogs for the South Challenge Cup first round clash at Buffs Park.

But he believes his players have nothing to lose by trying to beat their higher division opponents at their own game.

He said: "I love these type of games. It's a local derby and a chance for our boys to pit their wits against Premier Division players.

"Obviously we are massive underdogs because Chris Strain has got Kilwinning going well.

"But there's going to be a cup upset somewhere so who knows.

"We know for something like that to happen we'll have to be at our very best and the Buffs will have to have an off day.

"They will try to knock the ball about but we can play a bit as well.

"The idea will be to keep it tight, match their pace and tempo, and try to be brave.

"There's no point us booting the ball up the park because it will only keep coming back to us.

"We want to compete and hopefully play a part in a good cup tie."

Kilwinning looked poised to field a strong side with boss Chris Strain keen to build some momentum from last weekend's league derby win against Irvine Meadow.

He said: “We want the boys to get into a rhythm now so I don’t anticipate too many changes.”
