South Carolina stunned Georgia, but Twitter still roasted Will Muschamp’s terrible late call

On 4th-and-3 with 45 seconds left in the fourth quarter, South Carolina coach Will Muschamp made an incredibly puzzling decision as his team was tied at 17 against No. 3 Georgia.

Rather than going for it or even punting with the hope that the Gamecocks’ defense would make a stop to send the game into overtime, Muschamp sent Parker White out there for a 57-yard field goal attempt. With a very real shot to stun the Bulldogs — which they eventually did — Muschamp made a terribly misguided decision when he and South Carolina had two very reasonable alternatives.

White missed, and Georgia got the ball with 40 seconds left and a shot to at least kick a field goal for the win.

Luckily for Muschamp, Georgia coach Kirby Smart made a similarly questionable decision of his own, opting to run a play with eight seconds left in field goal range and ultimately getting a penalty, moving the Bulldogs back to the 43-yard line.

The game went into double-overtime, and the Gamecocks pulled off the shocking upset, 20-17, after Georgia missed a field goal that would have sent the game into a third overtime.

But that didn’t stop college football Twitter from absolutely destroying Muschamp’s terrible call at the end of the fourth quarter (while Smart took a bit of heat too).
