South Carolina’s Will Muschamp furiously says no comment in halftime interview

South Carolina coach Will Muschamp was fired up going into halftime against Alabama on Saturday, and not in a good way. In a very brief on-field interview, Muschamp looked like a cartoon on the verge of his head exploding as he suppressed a potential meltdown.

With less than a minute left in the second quarter, the Gamecocks had the ball, and running back Rico Dowdle looked like he might have scored a touchdown. Officials called him down just shy of the goal line, but that decision is up for debate.

However, the play was not reviewed, which infuriated Muschamp. The way in which he said no comment during his on-field halftime interview made that clear.

“I’m not gonna comment on that. If I comment on that I’ll get fined for the rest of my life!”

Dowdle was called down at the one-yard line on 1st-and-goal, so South Carolina had three more chances to score before the clock ran out of time. It still couldn’t get it done and went into halftime trailing, 24-10 — not that it would have mattered much in the 47-23 loss to the Crimson Tide.

The SEC released a statement on Twitter about the play, explaining why officials opted not to review it.

Fans descended into @SECOfficiating’s mentions, enthusiastically disagreeing with the call, the logic of it and other questionable decisions that appeared to favor Alabama.
