South Bristol pub The White Hart to reopen under new owners with 'completely new look'

A pub in south Bristol will be completely unrecognisable when it reopens under new management next month.

The White Hart has been closed for the past five weeks so that new owners Craft Union, who purchased the pub from the Ei Group in April, could carry out a major overhaul.

When the Bedminster Parade boozer reopens on October 12 with a launch party, it will play a more active role in the local community with regular events, according to its management.

Terrie Spratt, area manager for the Craft Union Pub Company, said: "We knew that Ei's lease was coming to an end at the White Hart and we were ready waiting in the wings to take it on.

The pub was previously owned by the Ei Group (Google Maps)

"We saw great potential in the pub and a fantastic opportunity to make it more focused on the local Bedminster community.

"There's going to be lots going on at the pub including darts and pool nights and a quiz in the week and then music at weekends, including karaoke nights.

"A significant amount has been spent on the refurbishment and it's going to look completely different when it reopens. Everything inside will be brand new."

No food will be served at the pub but there will be a new selection of ales and ciders. The pub is also Cask Marque accredited, a seal of approval awarded to establishments which serve quality cask ale.

About Craft Union

Craft Union has expanded rapidly in recent years.

After opening its first pub in 2015 it quickly added a host of others to its portfolio and now has a total of 380, with the aim of owning 500 by 2020.

Primarily based in the north of England, this will be Craft Union's first project in Bristol.

According to its website: "At the Craft Union Pub Company, our philosophy is about putting brilliant pubs back at the heart of local communities.

"We believe pubs play a vital role in the lives of their customers and we are committed to nurturing this.

"We stand shoulder to shoulder with our publicans, supporting them as they practice their craft of running outstanding pubs. For us, they are our local heroes."

Craft Union is still part of the Ei Group umbrella.

Relaunch event

The aim of the relaunch event on Saturday, October 12 will be to 'welcome the pub back into the community and showcase what we have done', added Terrie.

Kicking off at 8pm there will be something for all ages to enjoy including performers on stilts, music including a DJ and live performer, canapés and much more.

Terrie said: "It's going to be a really fantastic evening with plenty going on and we can't wait to see lots of people from the local community.

"We can't wait to show off the pub's new look."
