South Belfast football club links up with Linfield to find new home

A South Belfast football club is finally 'coming home' after forging an exciting new partnership with Linfield .

Kelvin Old Boys have linked up with the Blues to play their home games at New Midgley Park next season.

It is a welcome development for the Amateur League side who have endured a bit of a nomadic existence over the past three decades.

Kelvin OB used to play their home fixtures at Kelvin High School until it closed in 1988.

The club's first team then played its home games at Dixon Park off Grand Parade in East Belfast, but now they are finally returning to the south of the city after linking up with Danske Bank Premiership champions Linfield.

"It is great news for the club, and this is something we have been working on for the past six weeks," said Kelvin OB secretary Michael Surgeon.

"We played at the school until it closed in the 1980s, and then we had to move to East Belfast.

"It has been a long journey to get to here, so we are absolutely delighted. Now we have great facilities, and they are in South Belfast. A lot of our players and fans would come from a Linfield-supporting background, so they will be happy."

Kelvin OB met with Linfield chairman Roy McGivern and Midgley Park Development Manager Neil Morrow on Thursday.

The deal will see Kelvin OB play their home fixtures at New Midgley Park next season.

"This is a massive development for our club and one we hope can help take us to the next level as well as help push the youth section on to achieve more and more," Surgeon added.

"We have two senior teams and five youth teams. Hopefully we can continue to build and develop."
