South Belfast car reportedly stolen goes up in flames after crashing into lamppost

Three men have been arrested following the report of a vehicle theft incident at Strandview Street in South Belfast last night.

It was reported that three males approached a man in the street, at around 8pm, as he stood beside his car.

Police say one of the males then jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off stopping a short distance away to allow the other two males to get in.

The PSNI spokesperson added: "A short time later, at around 8.20pm, the car was located on fire after it had crashed at Purdysburn Road in Newtownbreda.

"A police patrol located and arrested three male suspects at the nearby Hydebank Playing Fields. The men, aged 31,32 and 33, were arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including aggravated vehicle taking and robbery and all remain in custody at this time.

"Anyone with any information about this incident or who may be able to help with the investigation, is asked to call officers in Lisburn Road on the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference number 2036 20/07/20, or submit a report online using the non-emergency reporting form via  http://www.psni.police.uk/makeareport/.

"You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at  http://crimestoppers-uk.org/."
