South Bank hotel Sea Containers to deliver spare food to vulnerable people across London

Sea Containers on the South Bank will take part in a scheme delivering food to vulnerable Londoners

A South Bank hotel has joined a campaign to rescue edible surplus food and deliver it to vulnerable people across London, to tackle food poverty ahead of the festive season.

Spare ingredients from Sea Containers London’s kitchen will be made into a butterscotch and apple bread pudding and given to struggling Londoners for its “Giving Thanks” campaign in support of the Felix Project — a charity working to redistribute 30 tonnes of surplus food to 250 charities.

Staff at the hotel are also volunteering to take part in a walking scheme to deliver food directly to charitable organisations in the capital.

As well as this, the hotel is donating 20 per cent of proceeds from a Thanksgiving menu to the Felix Project, which was at the heart of the Standard’s Food for London Campaign.

Sergio Leandro, general manager at Sea Containers London, said: “We are really excited about joining up with The Felix Project this Thanksgiving, as we believe it’s an incredibly important charity that gives back not only to our community but to the wider London community too.

“Our team at Sea Containers London will be getting stuck in and volunteering over the Thanksgiving period, delivering food directly to the charity, so they can provide healthy meals to those who need it most.”

Twenty per cent f the Thanksgiving menu proceeds and 20 per cent from the Thanksgiving on the Thames room package, will be donated to The Felix Project to help vulnerable people suffering food poverty in London.
