South Ayrshire Council to allow free parking in Ayr town centre this December

Shoppers in Ayr will be given free parking this December as part of the council's annual bid to drive footfall into town centre.

Charges on all on-street pay and display parking bays will be ditched along with car parks at Barns Crescent, Charlotte Street and Kyle Street. Maximum stay limits will still apply.

Councillor Ian Cochrane, South Ayrshire's environment spokesman, said: “Supporting local businesses is a big priority, and the free parking will be a welcome boost for retailers who have struggled of late.

“We want to attract people back into the town centre, but I would still encourage the use of sustainable modes of transport wherever possible.

“I would also ask that drivers comply with any length of stay restrictions, as it’s important that we continue to encourage parking space turnover.

“Finally, please remember to follow the latest COVID-19 advice, while you are out and about over the festive season.”
