South Ayrshire Council targets traffic jams at Ayr dump

Traffic jams at Ayr's rubbish dump are to be targeted as part of new measures by South Ayrshire Council.

Long tailbacks have been caused by queuing cars at the recycling centre at Heathfield in recent weeks.

And with a heavy impact on motorists in the surrounding area, council bosses are ready to act.

Temporary traffic management – including a 'stacking system' – will now be introduced in a bid to solve the problem.

A council spokesperson said: "We know that there has been some traffic congestion at peak times around our household waste recycling centre at Heathfield in Ayr.

"To make things a bit easier for everyone, we have arranged to reintroduce temporary traffic management and a queuing system at the site.

"A ‘stacking system’ will be in place which means you will be able to drive your vehicle past the entrance to the site along to the end of Old Farm Road, then turn back to enter the site by turning left.

"Signage and traffic marshals will be in place to assist and ensure everyone can access the site safely.

"This will begin from Saturday, March 6, and will be in place Saturday to Monday (inclusive) for the next few weeks.

"We hope this will help reduce traffic congestion on Heathfield Road during the busiest times."
