South Ayrshire Council have confirmed they will complete the purchase of the Arran Mall and former Hourstons building on Ayr High Street this week.
They say this is an exciting development, marking "an important milestone" as they work to transform the site into a new leisure hub.
The council say they will now be able to make significant progress towards achieving their ambition to regenerate Ayr High Street.
Councillor Peter Henderson, Leader of South Ayrshire Council said: “This is an important step towards repositioning Ayr High Street as a prime cultural, heritage and leisure destination.
“A modern leisure facility will help attract people back into the town centre, support local businesses and ensure South Ayrshire is an even better place to live.”
