South Ayrshire coronavirus death toll nears 100

South Ayrshire’s coronavirus death toll in care homes has reached the same level as those in a hospital setting.

The Post can reveal how a total of 47 people have died in care homes since the start of the pandemic.

And that’s exactly the same number as those who tragically passed away from the virus in hospital.

The National Records of Scotland reveal that a total of 262 Ayrshire residents have died as a result of contracting Covid-19.

The statistics take into account deaths from May 18 to May 24 and the news means 21 patients in the region have died in that time frame.

The previous week that number was also 21.

The figures are released every Wednesday.

The coronavirus death toll in South Ayrshire currently stands at 99, while in East Ayrshire that number is 68.

In North Ayrshire 95 people have died.

In East Ayrshire’s care homes 28 have died from the virus, with 35 passing away in hospital.

In North Ayrshire, 41 patients died of the  virus in care homes- with 45 in hospital.
