South Australian double murderer jailed for at least 26 years

The women's bodies were found inside this house.

A Swedish national will serve at least 26 years in prison for the ice-fuelled murders of his partner and her mother in South Australia last year.

Bo Krister Olsson bashed his partner Sherril Pountney, 63, to death and then strangled her elderly mother Patricia Phillips, 84, at their home in Millicent in May.

South Australia's Supreme Court heard that Olsson, 54, drove around for four days after the murders before handing himself in at a Riverland police station.

Justice Anne Bampton sentenced Olsson to a life term of imprisonment, with a non-parole period of 26 years, based on early guilty pleas.

She said he was actually eligible for a 40 percent reduction in the non-parole period he otherwise would have received, but ruled that would have been a "disproportionate" reduction which would affect the public's confidence in the administration of justice.

Justice Bampton said the devastation and grief Olsson had wrought on the victims' family was lifelong and heart wrenching.

She said Ms Phillips was an "elderly vulnerable woman" whom Olsson had described as a "pain in the arse".

The court heard Olsson will likely be deported to Sweden if he is released on parole by the time he is 80.

He has three adult daughters in Sweden, where he emigrated to Australia from when he was 26.

Olsson had lived with Ms Pountney for 19 years.
