South Australia jobless rate remains high

South Australia still has the highest unemployment rate among all the states. (AAP)

South Australia's economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic remains a "work in progress", the state government says.

SA still has the nation's highest unemployment rate despite a fall from 7.1 per cent in January to 6.8 per cent last month.

Employment grew by 6600 in February to 847,400, with the number of full-time jobs growing by 3100 to 552,300.

"It is encouraging to see more South Australians in work, fewer unemployed and an increased participation rate, but there is more work to be done," Innovation and Skills Minister David Pisoni said.

The minister said the construction industry would continue to play a key role in SA's long-term recovery with 2681 new jobs in the sector so far this financial year.

However, the Labor opposition said the jobless figures showed the state government's economic response to the pandemic had failed.

It said SA also had the highest youth unemployment in the country at 18.1 per cent.

Opposition treasury spokesman Stephen Mullighan said it was clear the government was failing to do enough to get South Australians back into work.

"In the last three years, this government has overseen delays to infrastructure projects, cuts to employment programs, and tax increases to small businesses," he said.
