South American expert tells Manchester United about Facundo Medina potential amid transfer links

Manchester United have been provided an insight into whether Facundo Medina would be a good fit in the Premier League amid links with the Reds.

Reports in France have linked the Lens centre-back with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer ’s side, and the defender is reportedly worth upwards of £11 million.

Medina has impressed in Ligue 1 after moving to the French league from Argentina last summer in a £2.7m deal.

The report goes on to say that were United to sign Medina, they would then loan him back to Lens for the rest of the season, which would be a similar agreement that was in place for Amad Diallo and Atalanta.

Despite impressing in France, Medina’s profile in England is quite small, so what type of player are United being linked with?

South American football expert Tim Vickery has outlined Medina’s rise from the Argentinian leagues, and debates whether he would be a welcome addition to the Premier League.

“He doesn’t have a great deal behind him, he didn’t make the grade at River Plate,” Vickery told Sky Sports. “(He) went to a provincial side, Talleres de Cordoba, and after about 30 games there he went to France where they seem to be very happy with him.

“A rugged, left-sided defender who has just got himself on the fringes of the senior Argentina squad.

“He’s a tough character, that’s what the French seem to be enjoying about him, and his leadership qualities. He came from the same neighbourhood that gave us Diego Maradona.

“So a tough upbringing, leadership things, but I don’t think we’ve got enough behind him yet to really know if he has the quality to be a defender in the Premier League.”
