South African consortium pursuing Notts County set for crucial talks

The South African consortium hoping to buy Notts County were today set to discuss their business plan for the club if their takeover bid is successful.

It is understood that investors were due to fly into London to meet with Terry Pritchard of Charter HCP, who has been advising the group on their attempt to purchase the Magpies.

Among the topics up for discussion were the future of manager Neal Ardley, the playing budget for next season and the options regarding a training ground with one site of particular interest.

The group are hoping to have a deal wrapped up ahead of a crucial high court date  in London on June 5 when the club must look to settle an unpaid tax bill with HMRC.

Property developer Alex May is also rivalling the South Africans in the hope of sealing a deal for Notts who are about to embark on a maiden voyage into non-league football.

In the meantime, chairman Alan Hardy and the existing management team are helping the club prepare with the Magpies having slashed season-ticket prices for fans looking to renew next season.

The club also released its retained list on Friday which saw 12 players released with Jon Stead, David Vaughan and Elliott Hewitt among those not to be offered a contract.
