Tries by wingers Makazole Mapimpi and Cheslin Kolbe and the reliable kicking of Handre Pollard earned the Springboks the Webb Ellis Cup for the third time.
England were error-strewn throughout, conceding a number of scrum penalties and losing the critical battle up front.
Pollard kicked 22 points, preventing England from building any sort of momentum and guiding South Africa to a famous win.
