South Africa's Quinton de Kock completes 12,000 international runs

NEW DELHI: South African opener Quinton de Kock reached a significant milestone by surpassing 12,000 international runs with his impressive knock of 174 runs in the ODI World Cup 2023 match against Bangladesh at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Tuesday.

This achievement places him among the select group of just seven South African players who have amassed over 12,000 international runs. De Kock now boasts a total of 12,160 runs in 284 international matches.

Currently, in the ongoing ODI World Cup, De Kock leads the run-scoring charts with 411 runs in five matches, maintaining an extraordinary average of 102.75, including three centuries.

With his third World Cup century, he has become the second South African to score the most World Cup hundreds for the Proteas. AB de Villiers, with four centuries, holds the record for the most World Cup centuries for South Africa.

Herschelle Gibbs, Hashim Amla, and Faf du Plessis have each scored two World Cup centuries, placing them below Quinton de Kock in this regard.

In the ODI World Cup, Quinton de Kock is the second-highest century scorer among designated wicketkeepers, with only Kumar Sangakkara having more centuries (four).

AB de Villiers and Zimbabwean cricketer Brendan Taylor hold the third and fourth positions in this category with two centuries in the tournament.

In Test cricket, De Kock has accumulated 3300 runs in 54 matches with a remarkable strike rate of 70.93. He made his ODI debut in 2013 and has since played 150 matches, amassing 6583 runs with a stellar strike rate of 96.75.
