South Africa has won the second Test against Australia in Port Elizabeth by six wickets, with an early bowling onslaught quickly ending any hopes the visitors had of an unlikely fightback.
Starting day four already five wickets down and only 41 runs in front, Australia needed its lower order to stick around for at least the first session to set a semi-competitive total — but the excellence of Kagiso Rabada quickly made that impossible.
Rabada knocked over Mitch Marsh with a ripping inswinger, and from there the rest of the tail crumbled. When the last wicket fell, Rabada had figures of 6-54 and South Africa needed only 101 to win.
Any hopes of a miracle Australian victory likely ended when Mitch Marsh dropped Aiden Markram at slip, and even though he and Dean Elgar would fall before the score reached 50, the in-form AB de Villiers made light work of the rest of the chase.
The win levels the series at 1-1 ahead of the third Test in Cape Town, which begins on March 22.
