South Africa hopes Covid-19 vaccinations will be effective against new variant

EYE ON AFRICA © FRANCE 24

South Africa, the first African nation to top one million Covid-19 cases, had been hoping to get its hands on vaccinations to roll out a campaign from next month. Also, Kenyan primary and high schools reopen nine months after closing because of the pandemic. Social distancing is going to be tough and some parents are worried it's still too early to return to class.

And three people are killed in Cameroon in an attack by Nigerian Boko Haram jihadists. The country is struggling to tackle a security threat on two fronts as it's also facing an ongoing insurgency from English-speaking separatists.
