South Africa evacuated from hotel in early hours before Wales match and 'forced to mingle with clubbers in the cold'

The Springboks' preparation to face Wales on Saturday evening took a blow after they were evacuated twice from their Cardiff hotel overnight.

South Africa have been staying at The Hilton in Cardiff city centre and on the eve of their Principality Stadium encounter, they - and the rest of the hotel's guests - were evacuated by what has been reported to be a fire alarm.

According to Matt Pearce, broadcaster for SuperSport (who are broadcasting Saturday's 'Boks match back in South Africa), the first alarm rang just before 4am and the second went off at 7.20am.

"Hello from test match day in Cardiff," he wrote on Twitter.

"At 03h58, a fire alarm in the [Springbok] team hotel, everyone evacuated for some forced mingling with departing night-clubbers on the pavement in the cold. 20 minutes later, back into hotel to go back to sleep. 07h20… repeat, (without the clubbers)!"

Hilton Cardiff declined to comment on the matter.

South Africa are chasing their first win in Cardiff since 2013, and their stop-start night's sleep on the eve of the match probably won't have helped their preparations on the eve of their first Test match on their end-of-year tour.
