Source: Rangers' Yu Darvish traded to Dodgers

Rangers pitcher Yu Darvish has been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, The Dallas Morning News has confirmed.

The trade was first reported by Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

Darvish left his home in Japan to join the Rangers for the 2012 season. The Rangers won the negotiating rights to Darvish with a bid of $51.7 million to his former club: Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters.

"I want to become the kind of pitcher that will make people say 'Darvish is the No. 1 pitcher in the world,' " Darvish said at a news conference after signing with the Rangers.

The Rangers also gave Darvish a six-year, $56-million contract. The annual average salary of his next deal could triple through free agency.

Darvish arrived to grand expectations, which stayed with him throughout his time with the Rangers.

"What I know about Darvish is he loves to learn, he loves to compete and wants to be great," manager Jeff Banister said before the All-Star break. "Not just great. He wants to be considered one of the best. Are the outside expectations unfair? I don't think they measure up to his own and what he expects of himself."

Darvish went 57-39 with a 3.42 ERA in 122 starts with the Rangers. He made the American League All-Star team four times and placed among the top 10 in the Cy Young voting in 2012-13.

Darvish missed portions of the 2014 and '16 seasons and all of the 2015 season because of an elbow injury that required Tommy John surgery. Darvish is 13-14 with a 3.74 ERA for 39 starts since returning from the surgery.

Darvish made two postseason starts with the Rangers: the wild-card game against Baltimore in 2012 and an AL Division Series game against Toronto in 2016. He lost each game, going 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA.

In the loss to Toronto, Darvish gave up four homers in only five innings. That included three homers in the span of five hitters in his final inning. The four homers allowed matched the highest total in postseason history.
