Source: Raiders signing QB Nathan Peterman to practice squad

The Raiders are signing former Bills quarterback Nathan Peterman to the practice squad, a source told the Bay Area News Group on Wednesday morning.

Jon Gruden likely added Peterman because backup quarterback A.J. McCarron is with his wife and newborn son, Cash, who was born on Tuesday. The Raiders will intensify preparations for the Broncos on Thursday ahead of their Monday night matchup in what might be the last-ever game at the Oakland Coliseum, and Peterman will serve as scout-team quarterback until McCarron returns.

In two starts and four total games with the Bills this season, Peterman completed only 44-of-81 passes for 296 yards, one touchdown, seven interceptions and a 30.7 quarterback rating. In 2017 with the Bills, he completed just 24-of-49 passes for 252 yards, two touchdowns, five interceptions and a 38.4 quarterback rating.

The Bills, who drafted Peterman in the fifth round in 2017, waived him on Nov. 12. He has been unemployed since. Peterman beat out McCarron for the starting job in Buffalo before rookie Josh Allen secured that role later in the season, and the Raiders dealt a fifth-round pick to the Bills for McCarron on Sept. 1. Now both former Bills backups will serve under Derek Carr.

Gruden was enamored with Peterman out of Pittsburgh, as you can see in their meeting for Gruden's QB Camp show before the 2017 draft.

"You can't go broke making a profit, and that's what you're gonna get with Peterman," Gruden said in the episode.
