Nov. 15--The Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues certainly kept the NHL's Department of Player Safety busy after a raucous Central Division showdown Saturday night in St. Louis.
The league looked closely at three separate incidents during the Hawks' 4-2 victory but a source said no supplemental discipline will be handed down to the Hawks' Jonathan Toews and Marko Dano or the Blues' David Backes.
Toews was penalized for an illegal check to the head when he delivered a hit to Backes in the waning moments of the first period, but was cleared of any wrong-doing. In the second, Backes got his revenge when he boarded Hawks defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson but, again, the NHL determined the hit wasn't worthy of supplemental discipline. In the aftermath of that hit, Toews and Backes dropped the gloves and fought.
Not long after, Dano drew a boarding penalty for a hit on the Blues' Robby Fabbri but the league determined no supplemental discipline was warranted.
A total of 36 minutes of penalties were called during the latest chapter in the long-time rivalry betweem the teams. The NHL's Department of Player Safety might want to circle Jan. 24 on its calendar as the Hawks and Blues will meet again at the United Center.
