The NFL fined two Bears for excessive penalties in the team’s Week 4 loss to the Colts, a source said.

The league hit outside linebacker Robert Quinn with a $15,000 fine for his horse-collar tackle on Colts running back Jonathan Taylor midway through the second quarter. Taylor gained 12 yards on the play and got an additional 15 on Quinn’s penalty for the Colts’ second-biggest gain of the day.

Running back Cordarrelle Patterson also was fined $12,500 for a verbal altercation with an official after a play on special teams. He drew a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct.

It is the second time Patterson has been fined since joining the Bears after he was charged $10,527 last season for taking his helmet off on the field in the game at the Rams.

Bears defensive tackle Akiem Hicks was not fined for his fourth-quarter facemask on Taylor, nor was outside linebacker Barkevious Mingo fined for his illegal block above the waist late in the game.
