DALLAS _ A Mavericks source told The News on Sunday that the right ankle sprain Luka Doncic sustained early in Saturday night's overtime loss to Miami has been diagnosed as "moderate" and that Doncic could return to the court soon after Christmas.
Also, coach Rick Carlisle told reporters via text message: "Luka Doncic will not travel to Milwaukee due to a right ankle sprain. He will stay in Dallas with Casey Smith and receive treatment. There will be no updates until Wednesday night."
Smith is the Mavericks' director of player health and performance. The Mavericks on Monday night will play at Milwaukee, which has an 18-game winning streak and 22 victories in its last 23 games.
The Mavericks source told The News that in addition to the Milwaukee game, Doncic almost certainly will miss the remaining games before Christmas: Wednesday at home against Boston, at Philadelphia and Dec. 22nd at Toronto. The Mavericks host San Antonio on Dec. 26 and finished the calendar year with a trip to play Golden State, the Lakers and Oklahoma City.
