Source: Cubs interested in free-agent pitcher Joakim Soria

CHICAGO _ One of the more frustrating moments of the Cubs' late-season slide occurred when Joakim Soria struck out Javier Baez with the tying and go-ahead runs on base to end a sixth-inning rally and help the Brewers secure a 3-1 win for the National League Central title on Oct. 1.

But the Cubs have taken note of Soria's strikeout and his experience to inquire about his availability, according to a source.

Soria, 34, had a 3.12 ERA in 66 games with the White Sox and Brewers last season. He earned 16 saves _ all with the Sox _ before handling mid- to late-inning duties with the Brewers following a July 26 trade.

Soria has 220 career saves to go with a 2.88 ERA in 11 seasons with six teams.
