Cowboys starting right tackle La'el Collins will have season-ending hip surgery next week, a source said Saturday.
Collins has been on injured reserve since the season started due to his hip issues. The Cowboys hoped Collins would recover over time but when his hip didn't respond to treatment and rest, it was determined surgery was the best way to solve his problems.
A source said Collins will have surgery on Wednesday.
The Cowboys offensive line has missed Pro Bowl left tackle Tyron Smith the last two games with a neck stinger, Pro Bowl center Travis Frederick for the season to retirement and Collins for health reasons in 2020.
Smith is expected to play in Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns.
The Cowboys used Terence Steele as Collins' replacement and he could start at right tackle Sunday. Brandon Knight, who played for Smith, is another possibility.
Just before the start of the 2019 season, Collins signed a five-year $50 million deal with $35 million in guarantees.
Collins had a strong 2019 season but didn't start this year's training camp on time due to health issues. Collins was slowly brought along but participated in a Blue-White scrimmage at AT&T Stadium on August. 30.
Collins didn't practice after that scrimmage.
Now he's unavailable for the 2020 season.
