Despite no progress toward a contract extension and the Bears using the franchise tag on him this season, a source said wide receiver Allen Robinson plans to be at Halas Hall for mandatory minicamp this week.
The Bears will practice Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday then take an extended break until training camp.
It is common for players to skip voluntary OTAs and even minicamp amid displeasure with their contract, and Robinson did not report for OTAs the past two weeks. It was unclear whether that was contract-related or merely declining to go to something simply because it was optional. The majority of the Bears’ starting defense, for example, did not attend OTAs.
Robinson led the Bears with 255 catches, 3,151 yards and 17 touchdowns over the past three seasons and has talked openly about wanting a long-term contract since late in the 2019 season. When he and the Bears couldn’t agree on a deal, they secured him for 2021 at $17.9 million on the franchise tag.
Robinson signed the tag and said he had “a pretty good mindset” about moving forward. He and the Bears have until July 15 to reach a deal, or he’ll be an unrestricted free agent again in March.
