The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly underwent an angioplasty at a city hospital on Thursday after a similar procedure on January 2.

“The procedure was uneventful. Mr. Ganguly is stable an under close observation,” a statement issued by Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals said. Renowned cardiac surgeon Devi Shetty and other senior doctors were present during the procedure.

Ganguly, during his previous hospitalisation, had been diagnosed with triple vessel disease and doctors had suggested that angioplasty should be carried out on two other arteries where there was blockage. He had got himself admitted to the hospital on Wednesday after feeling pain and uneasiness in his chest .

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited Ganguly and thanked the doctors for “successfully and intelligently” completing the procedure.

“Sourav is well, he is able to communicate. He will recover soon, and I wish him best,” the Chief Minister said.
