Soup tycoon Audrey Baxter joins board of BMO Private Equity Trust

Baxters food group chief executive Audrey Baxter and Edinburgh-based boardroom veteran Tom Burnet have joined the board of BMO Private Equity Trust PLC.

The fund, which invests in unlisted companies, said their appointments were aimed at managing an orderly succession as other non-executive directors get ready to retire.

Baxter has led her Fochabers family firm, founded in 1868 but made famous by her parents Gordon and Ena Baxter, since 2015. She is chair and CEO of W A Baxter & Sons (Holdings) Ltd which owns food businesses worldwide and has served on the boards of public and private companies, charities and voluntary organisations.

Burnet is a former Black Watch Army officer who has led Serco's defence services arm and is chairman of FTSE-listed software company Kainos and Baillie Gifford's US Growth Trust.

The BMO Private Equity Trust is managed by finance veteran Hamish Mair, originally from Crieff.

The firm said: "We look forward to working with Audrey and Tom and to the valuable insights that they will bring to the Board's deliberations."
